President Donald Trump, sworn in for his second term, announced plans for immediate policy changes during his inaugural address on Monday. Trump reiterated his commitment to reshaping U.S. policy both domestically and internationally. Here are some of the announcements he made:

📌Immigration and border security Trump declared illegal immigration a national emergency, committing to a border crackdown. He announced plans to deploy troops to the US-Mexico border, reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” policy, and detain all individuals crossing illegally.

📌Energy, trade, and economic policies Trump announced a national energy emergency to address inflation and energy prices, pledging increased domestic drilling. “We will drill, baby, drill, and bring down costs for every American family,” he promised. He also revealed plans to overhaul trade policy, establish an “External Revenue Service” to collect tariff revenues, and prioritise economic self-sufficiency. “The American dream will soon be back and thriving like never before,” he said, announcing the creation of a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

📌Gender and social policies Trump committed to policies that he described as “color-blind and merit-based,” saying that the US government will no longer prioritise race and gender considerations. He also declared that the government will officially recognize only two genders – male and female.

📌Space exploration and global ambitions Trump announced plans for US astronauts to land on Mars as part of what he described as America’s manifest destiny. “We will pursue our manifest destiny into the stars, to plant the stars and stripes on planet Mars,” he said.

📌Middle East and foreign policy On the recent release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, Trump described the US as a peacemaker in the Middle East. He also pledged to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” and restore the name of Mount McKinley, previously renamed Denali, to its former title. He reiterated his earlier claim that China operates the Panama Canal and said, “We didn’t give it to China. We’re taking it back.”

📌Free speech and censorship Trump announced plans to sign an executive order aimed at stopping censorship, saying, “After years of illegal and unconstitutional restrictions on expression, I will bring back free speech to America.”
