The Israeli military has attacked Lebanon’s capital Beirut and has targeted the Hezbollah commander who was responsible for the strike in Golan Heights last week.
Israel occupied Golan Heights was struck allegedly by Iran backed Hezbollah militants on Saturday killing 12 children and teenagers.
According to Reuters, a loud noise was heard above the southern suburbs of Beirut and a plume of smoke was visible in the sky, in a region which is known as the stronghold of the Hezbollah group.
In a post on X, Israel’s IDF (Israel Defense Forces) said, “The IDF carried out a targeted strike in Beirut, on the commander responsible for the murder of the children in Majdal Shams and the killing of numerous additional Israeli civilians.”
Detailing about the instructions related to civil defense in Israel, the IDF said “there are no changes in the Home Front Command defensive guidelines. If any changes will be made, an update will be released.”
The threat by the Israeli administration of attacking the Hezbollah territory in Lebanon earlier had already destabilised the region and Beirut was under tremendous tension.
The spill over effect of a wider ramification of a regional war between Israel and Iran backed Hezbollah militants has led to cancelations of almost all international flights to and from Beirut.
The alleged attack on Golan Heights by Hezbollah militants, who have constantly denied any role in it, and Israel’s counter action to it in Beirut, comes at a time when Israel is in talks with Gaza based militant group Hamas for a ceasefire in almost 10 months old all-out war.
