Ahead of Tuesday’s Apple event, a new report from Bloomberg claims that Cupertino will continue to use the Pro Max moniker for its top-of-the-line iPhone instead of the earlier speculated “Ultra” branding. The last-minute report also sheds light on some of the additional features and capabilities of the upcoming iPhones.
Just like last year, the iPhone 15 series will continue to include four models — iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 and the 15 Plus are said to feature an aluminium side and a glass sandwich design, similar to the iPhone 14, and 14 Plus. However, the expensive iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max are said to switch from stainless steel to titanium, which will not only reduce the weight by up to 10 per cent but will also enhance the durability.
The two Pro models will also be the first set of iPhones to feature a new action button instead of a ring/silent switch.
iPhone 15 Apple Event live updates
To enhance Find My App accuracy, all four iPhone 15 models are said to be equipped with a new U2 ultra wide-band chip, which is also said to be more efficient. Apple is also reported to have incorporated the new repair-friendly design that it introduced last year on the iPhone 14 to the entire iPhone 15 lineup, which makes it easy to repair and replace components like display, battery, and even the back glass.
The same Bloomberg report also highlights that although the primary camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max will remain identical to its predecessor, the telephoto and the ultra-wide angle lenses will receive a bump in resolution, and the periscope zoom technology backed zoom lens is also said to be capable of offering up to 6x optical zoom, for the first time on an iPhone.
Last, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is also expected to get a bigger battery paired to the power-efficient A17 Bionic, a chip fabbed using TSMC’s 3nm process. This should result in a greater battery life when compared to its predecessor which received some slack for their average battery life.
All these features will definitely come at a cost. As per a recent analysis by 9to5 Mac, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max will receive a $100 price hike, and despite the price hike, the base models are still said to offer just 128 GB of internal storage.
