Google recently announced it is rolling out a new update for Google TV that will add some new features and make some changes to the user interface. In November last year, the tech giant told developers they would have to make changes to existing app icons.

According to Google, the ‘Your apps’ row is getting a design overhaul, with apps in the dock now appearing circular instead of rectangles. The tech giant also seems to have increased the number of apps shown in the dock, allowing users to easily scroll through their most-used apps.

Apart from the visual overhaul, the ‘Your apps’ dock is also getting new ‘reorder’ and ‘add apps’ buttons, which will be visible at the end of the row. Google also seems to be adding a new shortcut button for ‘free  TV channels’, which will appear in the ‘Your apps’ row.

While the majority of these features will be available to everyone in the coming days, the ‘free TV channels’ feature is currently limited to the United States. The new circular ‘Your apps’ icons are not currently available on Chromecast with Google TV, but Google says the changes will be rolling out to everyone in the next few months, so you may have to wait a while.

Launched in 2020, Google TV is not a replacement for Android TV, but a user interface that is built on top of Android TV, the popular operating system that powers almost all smart TVs in the market.
