Samsung unveiled its first set of AI-powered smart TVs on Wednesday at the Unbox and Discover launch event. Just like Galaxy smartphones and home appliances, Samsung is offering innovative on-device AI capabilities on its latest flagship Neo QLED 8K smart TVs, powered by the in-house NQ8 AI Gen3 processor.

Right after the launch, Mohandeep Singh, senior vice-president of the Consumer Electronics business at Samsung India, spoke to IndianExpress.com and stated that, “AI on Samsung’s new Neo QLED 8K smart TV is both a software and hardware solution, and the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor on these TVs has a dedicated neural processor, which is twice as fast as the last year’s model with 512 neural networks. It enables us to perform on-device AI tasks better and deliver newer services to consumers, and research and development for some of these products are done in India.”

Samsung is also using AI to save power on these smart TVs, and according to Singh, power saving has to happen without compromising on the viewing experience.

“Consumers will save up to 30 per cent on electricity because of the AI energy-saving mode compared to the previous generation models, with a similar or better viewing experience,” he said.

Samsung is using AI technologies to automatically change the picture settings, depending on the content being played on the television. “AI on the Neo QLED 8K smart TV understands what you are trying to do, whether it is content viewing. It also understands the environment that you are in and optimizes both picture and audio quality to give you the best output,” Singh added.

8K content (the highest image or display resolution available so far) is increasing by the day, and even phones can create 8K content. Samsung has also introduced AI Upscaling Pro technology on the latest Neo QLED 8K smart TVs, which can upscale a standard-definition video to HD and FHD resolution. Users can watch 4K content in close to 8K resolution on the latest 8K TVs from Samsung.

Singh also stated that “Samsung will soon introduce more smart TVs that deliver hardware-backed AI solutions, and some of these AI solutions to the previous generation NeoQLED smart TVs, where there are no hardware constraints.
