Samsung is reportedly working on a more expensive version of its upcoming book-style foldable smartphone. Dubbed the ‘Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra’, a new leak from the Galaxy Club blog suggests the smartphone maker is working on a new device that appears to be a cross between the company’s Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy S Ultra series.
The post hints that the upcoming phone will have the model number SM-F958 and that it will only be available in South Korea. However, it did not share details on how the Ultra model will fare against the standard Galaxy Z Fold series.
The leak corroborates an earlier report from WinFuture, which hinted that the phone maker was indeed working on an Ultra variant. Rumour also has it that the Galaxy Z Fold Ultra may come with an embedded S Pen, which is usually found on devices like the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Also, the upcoming foldable phones will probably be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, a customised version of Qualcomm’s most powerful mobile chipset to date.
Earlier reports from South Korean publications like The Elec and ETNews have hinted that Samsung is also working on a cheaper variant of the Galaxy Z Fold that is rumoured to start from $800, less than half of what the Galaxy Z Fold 5 currently costs.
If these rumours are true, we expect to see a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Lite and a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra alongside the standard model. The launch of different foldable devices catering to different budgets may also contribute to the popularity of the form factor.
