American video game developer Riot Games has announced its first-ever international Valorant esports competition in India. Dubbed “Convergence,” the tournament will take place December 14-17 at the Manpho Convention Center in the tech hub of Bangalore.
The four-day event represents a milestone for Riot as its first international Valorant competition held in India. The tournament will see the participation of some of the top teams from around the world such as Global Esports, FUT, Furia, Vitality, and GenG. These teams play in Riot’s Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) in Asia, Europe, and Americas, and will compete during the main event which commences on December 14.
“With Convergence, Indian fans will finally get to see some of their favourite Valorant athletes perform in person and also interact with them off-stage. It will be a perfect ending to the 2023 VCT season and we are just getting started here in India for such international events.” said Sukamal Pegu, Esports Lead, India & South Asia, Riot Games.
“This event will not only enhance the esports experiences in the country but also elevate India’s presence on the global gaming stage,” said Vamsi Krishna, Founder and Managing Director, The Esports Club.
First released in 2020, Valorant is a team-based tactical shooter that blends precise gunplay with a diverse set of agent abilities and maps. As one of the world’s most popular competitive titles, Valorant continues gaining traction across India’s rapidly growing base of PC gamers.
Riot has focused intently on the Indian market over the past year via community engagement initiatives tied to the game’s Mumbai-based agent Harbor and localised efforts around Valorant’s third anniversary.
