MI vs CSK Highlights: Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav star as Mumbai Indians plough through Chennai Super Kings by 9 wickets

This has been a contrast to how Chennai's innings went. The way both Surya and Rohit are batting in the middle, it seems a different wicket than what has happened in the first innings. It was not just Ashwin and Jadeja, now Noor Ahmed is getting a bit of pasting. Outdated would not be the right word to use, but throughout this game, Chennai has looked a step behind in tactics and their assessments of what a good total is on this one as well.

It is now starting to feel like one of those Mumbai seasons where they start slow and steamroll opposition as the tournament goes on. It was that cameo when Hardik Pandya played against Mumbai, though they lost the game, it just felt like the moment the tournament is going to turn for Mumbai and it did. The momentum confidence things just have clicked for them from there on, and they are on a roll their next game is against Hyderabad away from home and it will be interesting to see how that one will go.

Surya's innings has killed this run chase. When he came into the middle, there was some hope for Chennai; however, once understood that all CSK were looking for was to use spinners and get wickets through conventional methods of tossing the ball up, he just kept sweeping and getting boundaries away. He has been severe today, Surya. Mumbai needs 50 from the final seven overs, and Pathirana has come into the middle. He just might bowl four out of the remaining seven.

Surya, since coming into bat, has made a mockery of this chase. While Rohit Sharma has slowed down, it is Suryakumar Yadav who has taken his chances. With both these finger spinners operating from either end it just seems like CSK is not having that venom through the middle overs, which begs the question, could MS Dhoni have brought on Noor earlier into the attack with a rate a tad bit higher. As we update Rohit Sharma has scored his first 50 of the season.

While Chennai is not completely out of it, they are behind. We have seen in the first innings that even with the batting they had their moments, but Mumbai always had an option for them which could pull off a wicket. Here too in the batting, while they are not playing an all guns blazing game but clearly they have another gear left in them. It is the new ball again in the tournament, which has not worked for CSK and has been the case again today since Surya has come into bat he is having the measure of Jadeja which is what the tactic CSK has made up for the game tonight.

We have not seen Noor come into attack yet. Usually he tends to bowl it quicker and flatter through the air, unlike the other spinners CSK has We might see him come into the attack a tad bit later. One thing we see with MS Dhoni despite two right handers in the middle he gave an over to Ashwin which we do not see much of in this matchup world however, with that over going for a few we might see a bowling change soon from the Super Kings.

Rickelton has fallen here. The batter tried to hit one through long-on; however, he dragged it too much and ended up giving a catch to the fielder. While it has been a good partnership a wicket immediately after the powerplay can be quite tricky. Jadeja is looking in good rhythm today. he got 50 with the bat early on and now the wicket. He can just pull off those performances, Jadeja. As per MI, Surya has walked into the middle and they need a partnership does MI.

This has been a very good start for the Mumbai Indians. They have not had too many starts to speak of through the tournament because of Rohit's poor form, but today they have managed to put on a 50-run stand. While Rickelton, who has been compared to Quinton De Kock, has had starts but is yet to replicate the same success that De Kock has had for the franchise. Today just might be the night with the ball coming nicely onto the bat for Rickelton.

Mumbai has started this chase on overdrive. Especially Rohit, who scored a couple of monstrous sixes into the leg-side when Khaleel slipped two into his ribs and short. MS Dhoni, reacting quickly, has brought in R Ashwin into the attack, and he starts well. Dhoni is reluctant to use Pathirana in the powerplay; however, how this game has gone so far, it might be needed that he uses an over of his death bowler somewhere here.

This is an important innings for Rohit Sharma. He has not had a good season so far, and the total that MI are chasing doesn't require him to strike at 180-200 either. He can explode in the powerplay and can take his time through the middle overs against spin and take his team home. It might be too early to say, given how the last few games have gone, it just seems like it is starting to click for Mumbai, and if Rohit gets runs, it will be icing on the cake for them.

Rickelton played a couple of sublime shots for boundaries in that opening over when Khaleel, looking for swing, pitched a couple up; however, the moisture from the first innings seems to have dried out the ball just went in straight lines and was drivable. Also, it is interesting that Chennai Super Kings have opted to go with R Ashwin as their impact sub instead of Anshul Kamboj, which seems like a tactical move where MS who feels like it will spin more.

I like the odd used surfaces, it's still a decent score, spun a bit, when you bowl slower, it tended to grip and turn off the surface. With the red soil, you could get a bit from the pitch, it's still a good score, hopefully we'll start well in the chase. The last few games, I didn't bowl as much as I should at this venue, I tried to bowl slower, at times the speed works, but on this surface, bowling slower works. Not much, but we'll need to start well in the chase.

Well, it has been that kind of an innings. One way to look at it is when two teams of very good quality meet each other, there would be ebbs and flows in the innings, and the other way to look at it, and which is what seems to have happened, is Mumbai had control of the innings with Chennai having few flashes in the middle. It is not a good total; they needed another 10-15 However out of both batting and bowling, it is the bowling which has been the stronger suit for CSK. Jasprit Bumrah has picked up MS Dhoni. The batter tried to flick the ball on the leg-side and ended up giving a straight catch square-leg fielder. It just seems like CSK might fall 10-15 runs short. Since the wicket of Dube MI has tightened up things again.

So far, this been superb over from Mitchell Santner. Bowling to Ravindra Jadeja, he was a step ahead of what to do. He did not start the tournament, will Santner did. However, in the last few games, he is getting into the groove. Today, he has been more than exceptional. He is yet to concede a boundary in this innings. This innings has been a see-saw battle so far, but Mumbai Indians have always been one step ahead of CSK through the game.

Jasprit Bumrah comes into the attack and picks Shivam Dube. Trying to flick the ball on the leg-side, it did seem like he got hold of it however, he was caught at square-leg by Will Jacks. Nevertheless he has played a brilliant hand scoring a half-century. MS Dhoni has walked into the middle. Now it will be interesting to see if Hardik Pandya will slip in an over of Mitchell Santner or continue with the pace of Ashwani Kumar. This has been a brilliant over from Bumrah.

Ashwani Kumar has three overs left in the game and Bumrah has two left if Hardik wishes that is five overs sorted for the final five however, it is not often we wsee captains do those extreme moves we might see Hardik come into an over himself or use Mitchell Santner's over somewhere if this left-handed partnership breaks. As we update, Jasprit Bumrah spilled a catch which went over the boundary. The pull shot from Dube was travelling. Bumrah did well to go there however, it went through the hands for six.

Chennai needs to get to 180 here as a minimum; anything less than that will be quite tough to defend, especially against this batting lineup, which is just starting to get into gear. As we update Jadeja and Dube build a 50-run stand. Ideally, they would have wanted that scoring rate of the partnership to be quicker, but it seems ok after a few boundaries Dube has squeezed in the last couple of overs. However, 180 from here will still take some hitting, and Jasprit Bumrah still has a couple of overs left.

Chennai still has some batting left in the dugout, and it might be time one of Jadeja or Dube starts taking the bowling on from one end. As this is not a bad wicket, it is an extremely good wicket to bat on. However, like this attack did to Sunrisers Hyderabad, they are choking the batters, and CSK falling into fall sense of security seems to be leaving it too late to get into the act. As we update, Shivam Dube thrashes a six on the leg side. They need more of these, does CSK.

Shivam Dube has come into bat and there is no spin used to him apart from that over of Will Jacks. While Dube has the reputation of a spin-hitter, and that is how CSK used him in his time here as well, but as of now, with Jadeja trying to play till the end, Dube is waiting for spinners to come in. What is happening is CSK is getting into a rut. Ayush Mathre has played a splendid cameo to inject some momentum and in the last few overs all that momentum is being sucked away.

This is good captaincy from Hardik Pandya. He first brought in Will Jacks to come into the attack, and in the following over, he has brought himself into the attack. However, he has taken Jasprit Bumrah out of the attack with still three overs remaining in his quota, it might be a wiser move to just use him here and try and break this partnership. Having said that, Hardik Pandya has been in brilliant form with the ball as well. It is coming off quite nicely from his hand this season.

Shivam Dube has walked into the middle. With two left-handers in the middle, it will be interesting to see if Hardik Pandya will continue with Mitchell Santner or bring in Will Jacks into the attack. While Jacks to two left-handers would be a good match as he is an off-spinner, however, Shivam Dube can play spin well and he has a weakness against pace, which might mean he just might be tempted to bring himself into the attack as well.

Shaik Rasheed has fallen here. Mitchell Santner has tossed one up outside the off-stump, which he tried to drive, but got beaten in the pace of the delivery, and Rickelton did the rest behind the stumps. Chennai has lost now third wicket. It has been a good passage for Mumbai since the wicket of Ayush Mathre; they have managed to bowl a few quiet overs and also pick wickets. As we update, Jasprit Bumrah comes into attack.

This is a lovely cameo from Ayush Mathre. This is what the Chennai Super Kings have been lacking through the tournament. They have not been able to get starts like this, however, today the exuberance of youth is at full display from the teenager. Regardless of how long this innings from him lasts, he has provided the injection of momentum for the innings. As we update, Chahar picks up Ayush. It was a slower bumper from Deepak, and he tried to pull it and got the top edge straight to Mitchell Santer. Chennai lost two.

This is a stunning start from Ayush. Right since he has walked into the middle, he has taken the attack on the Mumbai Indians for every length bowled by the Mumbai Indians bowlers, he has had a shot ready for it, and also this cameo is indicative of how early he picks up the length. We are into the last over of the powerplay, and we are yet to see Jasprit Bumrah. It is an interesting move from Hardik Pandya, especially given how well Ayush is batting in the middle, he has brought Santer into attack.

Ashwani has come into the attack and picked up the wicket of Rachin Ravindra. It was a wobble seam delivery which Rachin tried to hit on the leg-side, however, got the edge to the keeper Ryan Rickelton. Chennai has lost their first wicket as Ayush Mathur has walked into the middle and hit a boundary and a couple of sixes already. The first one was a straight drive down the ground,, and then he flicked one on the leg-side which went over the boundary, and the final one he pulled towards square leg.

This is a good start for the Mumbai Indians. In a few games earlier in the season, they have let the pressure get away with the new ball, as altered their plans too quickly in terms of lengths. Since Deepak Chahar has taken the new ball, things have slightly changed as he has been quite pinpoint with his lengths. Trent Boult, bowling the second over, has been been lot more adaptable when there is not too much swing on offer. The onus is now on Bumrah to come and do his thing like he did in the previous game.

We are done with the opening over. Deepak Chahar has taken the new ball for Mumbai Indians, and it did swing a bit. Shaik Rasheed was up to the task as he covered the line of the ball nicely, playing the swinging delivery. Rachin too faced a delivery, and his feet seemed to be moving well. We have seen in the past that Rachin has had his fair share of issues against moving ball as he tends to play with his hands more than moving his foot.

Both the Chennai openers are in the middle, and Deepak Chahar has the new ball for the Mumbai Indians. The wicket looks a touch on the slower side, and, interestingly, Mumbai Indians have opted to go with four seamers in this game.

"We are back on pitch number 8. The dimensions are quite signficant - 60 meters on one side with a little breeze as well, 66 away to the Eastern side and 73 meters down town. 430 runs were produced last time a game was played on this pitch. It looks a little bit drier compared to what we saw on Thursday night, very similar grass covering in the middle of the wicket but these ends (near the fullish length) here are particularly drier. You might see little more spin. I thought it was a tiny bit tacky for the team batting first the other night, I don't think that is going to be the case today. It is a really good wicket. The perception here is you are going to get dew, so I would imagine both teams will look to chase. It is going to be a high-scoring pitch. Runs on the board are okay but dew does come in while batting second."

We were looking to bowl first. The main reason is because dew has already started to set in, we have to see if it remains the same or gets worse. We are the bottom most team in the table, looking too far ahead will not help us, take one game at a time and keep pushing. We have to play bold cricket but at the same time the batters have to realise what their strengths are, same with the bowlers - that's what we have been telling the departments. The fielding is one area where we haven't taken good catches and need to improve, coming to the other two departments - we need partnerships while batting or bowling. We have one change - Ayush comes in for Tripathi.

We are gonna bowl first. It looks like a very good wicket. Same wicket we played against RCB. That gives us a chance to look at the wicket, identify our plans. It has a good covering of grass and will be a good batting wicket. Just executing our plans and keep doing what's working for us. That's exciting, we have not played to our potential and gives us an opportunity every game to play to our potential. The man (Dhoni) behind me, everyone knows how exciting it is when he comes, CSK v MI is always exciting. Same team.

In the Orange Cap race, MI’s Suryakumar Yadav moved up to the 4th position with his knock on Thursday while LSG’s Nicholas Pooran and GT’s Sai Sudharsan are 1st and 2nd. LSG’s Mitchell Marsh is 3rd while PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer is 5th.

Facing an ultimatum at his job due to frequent leaves, Shaik Rasheed's father, Balisha Vali, chose to leave his job entirely to fully support his son's cricket. He needed to accompany Rasheed to matches in various cities like Chennai, Vizag, and Hyderabad, feeling his presence was crucial at that young age. This led him to move back to his hometown, Guntur, about 40 km from the ACA academy in Mangalgiri. When the academy later shifted to Kadapa, Balisha Vali made a deliberate decision to keep Rasheed at the Mangalgiri academy. He reasoned that in the already established Kadapa academy with players like Nitish Kumar Reddy, Rasheed would be just one among many, whereas staying at Mangalgiri would ensure he received more individual attention.

Sarat Babu highlights Shaik Rasheed's unique training regimen, which involved practicing daily for an hour on unprepared and uneven wickets. This likely helped him develop adaptability and resilience in his batting. Simultaneously, Rasheed's father, who worked at the State Bank of India, transitioned to a private job at a Bajaj showroom to have more flexibility to support his son's burgeoning cricket career. However, the text implies this new arrangement was not long-lasting.

The coach Krishna Rao was most impressed by nine-year-old Shaik Rasheed's exceptional "ball sense" – his innate understanding of whether to play off the front or back foot after observing the ball's trajectory. This ability led Krishna Rao to include the young Rasheed in the U-14 age group. Rasheed quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a captain at all state age-group levels. Gaddam Venkata Sarath Babu recalls that when MSK Prasad was the operations director for Andhra Cricket, Rasheed, alongside Revanth Reddy, was selected to go to the Durham Cricket Academy in Newcastle at the young age of 11. This three-month stint in the UK significantly improved both his batting skills and his life skills.

A moment of parental concern for Shaik Rasheed's father when his young son was selected for an Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) academy, being one of only 20 players chosen. Shaik Balisha Vali was worried about his son's well-being, particularly due to his young age, and consulted the academy's head coach, Krishna Rao. He humorously recalled his specific worry, telling the coach that his son still wet the bed. Despite his reservations about sending his young son to the academy in Mangalgiri, he sought Krishna Rao's advice on whether or not to proceed.

seven-year-old Shaik Rasheed's exceptional batting talent was discovered at a cricket summer camp in Uppal, where he impressed coaches despite being much younger than the other 300 participants. His father, initially unaware of his son's potential, was encouraged to provide full-time coaching. Under AG Prasad's guidance, Rasheed developed his skills, leading to his selection for the U-14 Andhra state side and the U-16 Guntur Zilla side after trials in his hometown, Guntur.

The weather forecast for Sunday at Wankhede Stadium predicts a high of 30°C, dropping to 28°C around the toss time. Importantly, unlike the rain-affected PBKS vs. RCB match, no rain interruptions are expected for Sunday's game at this venue.

Even on batting-friendly pitches where big scores are common, the new ball gives pace bowlers a significant advantage early on, making it tough for openers to score freely. Mumbai's bowlers restricting SRH exemplifies this. This initial battle between bat and ball in the powerplay is crucial for setting the game's tone.

It is the biggest fixture of the IPL calendar, however, the current predicament of these two sides has been such that it is highly unlikely both will make it into the playoffs. However, the winner today will breathe easy, and the loser will make it a virtual knockout from here on.
