It is getting down the wire at the 2024 FIDE Candidates Tournament.
With only just two more rounds to go, it has turned into a three-way race with Ian Nepomniachtchi, Hikaru Nakamura and Gukesh Dommaraju being the three co-leaders.
Nakamura registered a hat-trick against Alireza Firouzja. Gukesh defeated Nijat Abasov to catch Nepomniachtchi, who was held to draw by R Praggnanandhaa. Vidit Gujrathi suffered another loss as he goes down against Fabiano Caruana, who is just a half-point behind the joint leaders.
In the 2024 Fide Women’s Candidates Tournament, Vaishali Rameshbabu after losing four games in a row defeated Anna Muzychuk to register her third straight win and she has jumped to sixth place. Koneru Humpy is joint-third with 6 points.
China’s Tan Zhongyi is in lead after surviving a close encounter against Nurgyul Salimova. Zhongyi’s fellow countrymen Lei Tingjie is a half-point behind after failing to put away a winning position against Kateryna Lagno.
