Ahead of the bypolls in Tripura’s Dhanpur and Boxanagar constituencies, the state BJP Thursday accused the CPM of instigating the voters communally and sought the Election Commission to take action against them.
A bypoll is being held in Dhanpur and Boxanagar constituencies accordingly in Sepahijala district on September 5 and the results will be announced on September 8.
“Though they are not conducting any big political rallies and people are not with them, their communal campaigns through social media give a sign of trouble. We can’t think that a political party can give such communal speeches,” BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya told reporters at the party headquarters in Agartala Thursday evening.
Saying that the CPM has no progressive plan for the voters, he also accused the CPM of not carrying out any developmental activity in the two constituencies in their two-decade-old regime.
Bhattacharya claimed that people are not with the CPM and prominent leaders from the Opposition parties are joining the BJP, a clear implication that people are no longer siding with the CPM.
The by-elections were necessitated, just six months after the Tripura Assembly elections, following the resignation of BJP leader Pratima Bhoumik as Dhanpur MLA due to her ministerial berth in the central government and the death of CPM’s Md. Shamshul Haque, who won from Boxanagar.
