The name of Wing Commander Sudhir K. Sharma, who had successfully led an evacuation operation of three mountaineers from an altitude of 23,260 ft at Mt Kament in the Himalayas, has been proposed for The Guinness Book of World Records, IAF sources said.
On May 11 this year, Sharma had evacuated three climbers, part of an IAF mountaineering operation, who were suffering from hypothermia, snow blindness and frost bite. He was helped in this mission by Ft Lt A.V. Dhanke.
For the first time, Cheetah helicopters had landed at such altitudes and the operation was carried out without oxygen masks, IAF sources said. The mountaineers were rescued within two days and brought to the Headquarters in Bralley, they added. — (PTI)
