Horse meat found in Ikeas Swedish meatballs,off shelves
Czech authorities Monday said they have detected horsemeat in meat balls labelled as beef and pork for Swedish furniture retailer giant Ikea,while European Union officials met to discuss tougher food labelling rules to counter the developing scandal.
The horsemeat was found in one-kilogram packs of frozen meat balls made in Sweden and shipped to the Czech Republic for sale in Ikea stores there,the State Veterinary Administration said. Ikeas furniture stores feature restaurants and also sell typical Swedish food,including the so-called Kottbullar meat balls. AP
Descendants call for King Richard III to be buried at York
Descendants of King Richard III have called for the monarchs recently discovered remains to be buried in York. The bones of the monarch,killed in the Battle of Bosworth in 1485,were identified this month after being discovered underneath a council car park in Leicester. After Westminster Abbey and York Minster both made claims,it was finally decided that he should be buried at Leicester Cathedral.
But now the debate has been re-opened by his descendants,who wrote an open letter demanding that his remains be buried in York in North Yorkshire,England. PTI
Fatah militants vow to avenge Palestinian prisoner death
Militants of the Al-Aqsa Martyr Brigade,the armed wing of Palestinian president Mahmood Abbass Fatah movement,vowed Monday to avenge the death of a prisoner they say was tortured in an Israeli jail. This horrific crime will not go unpunished and we promise the Zionist occupation that we will respond to this crime, said a statement at the funeral of Arafat Jaradat.
Meanwhile,Israels homeland security minister voiced concern that a surge of violent Palestinian protests in the occupied West Bank could erupt into a new Intifada (uprising) if confrontations turned deadly. PTI
