In ’30s China,a young man from the Guangdong province ended up becoming a legendary name in Chinese martial arts. Yip Man is credited for being the father of Wing Chung,an ancient martial art form in China. His life and struggle is the subject of the Wong Kar-Wai directed Chinese film,The Grandmasters (2013) that will be screened for the first time in India at the Chinese Film Festival to be held in Siri Fort auditorium,between June 18-23. The film festival is being organised in association with the India China Economic and Cultural Council (ICEC) and the State Administration of Press,Publication,Radio,Film and Television from China.

Ten films will be screened on genres ranging from action,new age cinema,to adventure and period drama. The highlight of the festival will be the arrival of action star Jackie Chan and other actors,Mengyu Zhang and Xingtong Yao,who will be present at the festival. The festival opens with Chan’s 2013 action drama,Chinese Zodiac or CZ12,set in 19th century China documenting the exploits of the British and French allied troops on precious artefacts. The film is being described as Chan’s last Chinese action film.

Among the other popular award-winning Chinese films at the festival will be,Feng Xiaogang’s 2012 film Back to 1942,which documents the gripping tension of the humanitarian crisis which plagued the Hunan province in the early 20th century starring Hollywood actors Tim Robbins and Adrien Brody; the 2011 Ann Hui-directed film,A Simple Life,about a maid who suffers a stroke,starring Chinese actor Andy Lau; and the 2012 Huo Jianqi-directed biopic,Falling Flowers,which is a true story about a prolific woman writer in ’40s China.
