Land policy: Banks meet Noida admin

After the Supreme Court ordered closing banking operations in residential areas, the Noida Residents Banks Association met Noida Authority officials on Thursday.

After the Supreme Court ordered closing banking operations in residential areas, the Noida Residents Banks Association (NRBA) met Noida Authority officials on Thursday. The panel requested the Authority to regularise banks,at their current location, under mixed land use.

Secretary of NRBA Rohit Sapra said,The Noida Authority was considering changing the land use of other plots in residential areas. We have requested that the residential plots, where banks and other commercial institutions run presently, should be granted change of status as commercial-under-residential. There is a provision for this in the Noida Master Plan-2031,under the conditional, permissible use clause. We are asking them to invoke this clause.

Noida Authority officials said they are considering the move, but an action like this will require time, exceeding the two-month limit given by the Supreme Court to wind up banking operations.

The Authority, meanwhile, has asked the banks to appeal in the SC for more time.

There are lots of issues that the Authority is handling at present land issues, elections in the next five months, and now this. To change the land use policy in the Master Plan requires a lot of time. So,we have told the banks to appeal in the SC, a senior official of the Noida Authority said.

Sapra said in response to the Authoritys request, they had asked for a letter from it saying that they supported the banks plea for more time.

Several banks have already sent a letter to the Authority asking for a change in the land use policy. Before we go to the Supreme Court, all we want is a response stating that it will require more time, he said.
