Cauvery: SC to hear Karnataka on Monday

On being mentioned, the court allowed urgent hearing in the matter and directed its listing on Monday.

The Supreme Court will on Monday hear the Karnataka government’s plea to stay its order for releasing 9,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu from the Cauvery river basin in accordance with the decision of the Cauvery River Authority.

On being mentioned, the court allowed urgent hearing in the matter and directed its listing on Monday.

Claiming that the decision by the Prime Minister-headed CRA ignored the “precarious condition” of the state,Karnataka has pleaded that it would be unable to comply with the apex court’s directive due to the decline in the river’s water level as otherwise it would adversely affect its own irrigation and drinking water needs.
