A 7-year-old girl was found dead in a car under mysterious circumstances owned by Maharashtra BJP chief Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday evening. The car was parked in the courtyard of Gadkaris residence in Gadkariwada in the Mahal area of the city.
Police said the child,Yogita Thakre, suffocated after accidentally locking herself in the car. Yogitas parents Vimal Thakre, who works as a maid in a few households in the area, and her husband have, however, alleged foul play in the death.
Vimal was at work when Yogita, who playing outside, reportedly got inside the unlocked car sometime between 3 and 4 pm. However, the vehicles central locking system appears to have got activated, trapping the child. Yogita remained inside the car for the next two hours, without anyone, including Gadkaris security staff, noticing her. Locals registered a complaint with the police.
