One day after three students and a Haryana Police constable were killed in a clash over alleged molestation of some tribal girl students in a running train, tension continued to prevail in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, where some trucks bearing Haryana registration numbers were set ablaze on National Highway-31. There were also reports of sporadic incidents of arson from Kokrajhar town, where students demanding action against the erring Haryana Police jawans, held a protest.

Assam Health Minister Bhumadhar Barman, who visited Kokrajhar and Salakati today, said the government would consider setting up a judicial inquiry. The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), however, wanted this to be done within the next three days. The police have taken six personnel of Haryana Police into custody in connection with the incident. The state government has already constituted a probe team comprising a senior IGP of the state and a Haryana Police IG.

Three students and a Haryana Police constable were killed as an irate crowd turned violent following allegations that some girl students were molested by Haryana policemen in Guwahati-bound Brahmaputra Mail on Friday morning.

According to the Assam Police, the jawans, who were on their way to Diphu for training under the Assam Rifles, opened fire when an irate crowd allegedly tried to attack them at Salakati station where the train was stopped by the station master.
