Hours after it rubbished the Congress’ claim that MP Rahul Gandhi had given no interview, weekly Tehelka said the entire episode had been a ‘‘clear case of misunderstanding’’ and regretted ‘‘any errors’’ in the interview.

‘‘Mr Gandhi thought he was having a casual chat whereas our reporter took it to be a proper interview,’’ the weekly.

‘‘Any errors in the interview are inadvertent and regretted,’’ it said issuing a second statement in the day in the midst of the political controversy over Rahul’s remarks in the interview that there was ‘‘no trace of governance’’ in centrally-ruled and poll-bound Bihar. The statement also described as a ‘‘pity’’ that the issue was being ‘‘politicised’’ by other parties. The fresh statement, the newspaper said, was its ‘‘final take’’ and ‘‘overrides the earlier statements’’. Earlier, Tehelka had said that the interview was a ‘‘formal’’ one and there was nothing ‘‘casual or private’’ about it. ‘‘We do not print anything that is off the record. Our reporter reproduced the interview faithfully,’’ it said.
