Midfielder Salif Diao was hero and villain of Senegal’s 1-1 draw with Denmark in Group A, scoring the Senegalese goal but giving away a penalty and getting sent off 10 minutes from time.

Senegal went behind in the 16th minute when Diao bundled over Jon Dahl Tomasson in the box. Tomasson converted from the spot himself.

But the Africans looked dangerous on the attack and it was no surprise when they equalised in the 52nd minute, Diao finishing superbly after a flowing move.

But the scorer, already booked in the 63rd minute, was shown the red card in the 80th minute for a high tackle on Rene Henriksen.

Eto’O pips Saudis to the post

Saitama: A goal from striker Samuel Eto’O midway through the second half gave Cameroon a 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia in Group E, keeping the African side in with a chance of reaching the last 16. Eto’O struck in the 65th minute when he ran on to a ball through the middle and prodded it past Saudi Arabian keeper Mohammed Al-Deayea from about eight metres. The defeat left Saudi Arabia, who were hammered 8-0 by Germany, out of contention for the second round before their final game with Ireland. (Reuters)
