PUNE, Nov 17: With just a minor patchwork remaining to be done by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s road department, today’s scheduled opening of the 78-year-old Sangam bridge has been postponed till November 18. The bridge had developed major cracks in mid-October following which it was closed for vehicular traffic for over a month. The manhole of the sewerage line on the bridge had been severely damaged. A portion of the surface admeasuring 5 X 5 feet caved in due to water pressure.

Officials however are unanimous on the proposal to ban heavy vehicles on the bridge. According to P T Pawar, development engineer (roads), the department was informed yesterday that repair work by the drainage department had been completed.
