Former champions Renault have promised Fernando Alonso a big step-up in his car’s performance for his home Spanish Grand Prix after a disappointing weekend in Bahrain.
“There is a lot coming, we are working with an updated aero package that is going quite well I must say,” engineering head Pat Symonds said after Sunday’s third round of the Formula One season. “We have also got some good developments on the suspension side as well.
“I would be very disappointed if we hadn’t found half a second (improvement in lap time) in Barcelona and our competitors have only found 0.3,” he added. “Those are the levels we should be looking at.”
BIGGER STEP
“Unfortunately, we are in a pessimistic moment because the first three races were not as good as we expected,” he said. “We were not aiming for a podium or anything like that but being in the points was not too difficult, we thought. “But this weekend we have been around 12th or 13th position in all the free practice and qualifying, so we need to make a bigger step,” he added.
