India Davis Cupper Prakash Amritraj tried everything he could but he failed to keep the momentum and lost his second round qualifying match, ending India’s hopes of seeing a player competing in men’s singles of the Wimbledon Championships.

Up against a tough customer in 13th seed Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky, who is placed 137 in the ATP charts, Amritraj, ranked 311, lost 3-6 6-1 3-6 in the match played on Tuesday night.

Now Indian hopes surround Fed Cup member Sunitha Rao, who is competing in the ladies’ singles qualification. She faces 15th seed Russian Olga Puchkova in the second round.
