In view of the tensions in the recent past in contests between India and Australia, match referee Chris Broad has advised captains and coaches of both the teams not to make any inappropriate public comments during the ongoing Test series.

Broad spoke to the captains, coaches and team management during a pre-series meeting and warned inappropriate comments could result in a Code of Conduct charge being laid against the individuals responsible, ICC said in a statement.

ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat, who will watch the second Test in Mohali, too urged the teams to play the game in the right spirit.

“The whole world has been waiting for this series with great expectations and we all want it to be remembered for all the right reasons, because of great cricket. There has been a long build-up to the series but now it is time for the cricket on the field to do the talking as a demonstration that Test cricket remains the pinnacle of our great game,” Lorgat said in the statement.
