Former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, who was expelled from the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Sunday, dared the party today to make his reply to the show-cause notice against him public, and reiterated that he had never indulged in any anti-party activities.

‘‘Whatever I have done was to strengthen the Asom Gana Parishad in view of the forthcoming state Assembly elections. The public has a right to know what the specific charges against me were. I challenge the party leadership to make the contents of my reply to the show-cause notice public,’’ Mahanta said.

Mahanta, who was in New Delhi over the last week, was taken in a procession from the airport to his official Dispur quarters, with supporters shouting slogans against AGP President Brindaban Goswami and demanding that the expulsion order against Mahanta be revoked.

Speaking at a meeting organised by his supporters, Mahanta made it clear that he had no inclination to join any other party. ‘‘I am committed to regionalism and I shall continue to work to strengthen regional forces in the state,’’ he said.

He, however, reiterated that certain external forces were out to destroy the AGP and that some of these were also behind the conspiracy hatched to expel him. ‘‘I do not want to identify those forces right now,’’ he said.
