Economist Vijay Kelkar took over on Monday as advisor to FM Jaswant Singh in the rank of a minister of state. Senior ministry officials briefed him on critical issues of the government.
Kelkar, who held various positions in the government and multilateral institutions, was finance secretary before he took up a three-year assignment in the IMF as India’s executive director that ended on July 31.
