MUMBAI, Jan 30: An Iranian national was arrested by the officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at the Sahar Airport yesterday morning for smuggling $ 12,900 which in Indian market is Rs 4.68 lakh. Said an AIU officer, the accused Ali Nasr Eshafani was intercepted while he was on his way to board a flight to Bangkok. Ali had hid the money in his shoes.
However, Ali said that the money was given to him by one Esmael, unknown to him, at Hotel Sea Lord, Colaba. It was to be handed over to one Reza at Bangkok. Ali said he was to receive $300.
