Inflation rose for the third consecutive week to 5.03 per cent for the week ended May 29, despite cheaper vegetables and fruits, eggs and several edible oils.

The point-to-point Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation was up marginally by 0.1 per cent from previous week’s 5.02 per cent. The index was 5.75 per cent during the year-ago period. The WPI, however, fell by 0.1 per cent to 181.7 points even as fuel prices stood firm with Petroleum Ministry yet to take any decision on the prices at the retail level in view of soaring crude oil prices in the international markets.

The final WPI stood corrected at 180.7 points during the first week of April as against the previous week’s figure of 180.5 points.
