India’s Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja have set a new world record for the highest fifth-wicket partnership in first-class cricket.
Junior internationals Pujara and Jadeja amassed 520 runs in an undefeated stand for Saurashtra, who declared their first innings closed at 620-4 against Orissa in the Ranji Trophy domestic competition on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old Pujara hit 302 and 19-year-old Jadeja 232 to surpass the previous record set by Australia’s Waugh twins, Steve and Mark, who put on an unbroken 464 for New South Wales against Western Australia in 1990.
The stand was also the second highest partnership in Indian cricket and the eighth for any wicket in first-class cricket.
Last month, Pujara enhanced his reputation as a future Test player by scoring two triple centuries in the space of a week at Under-22 level.
