Breast stroke gold for Jayprakash: Arjun Jayprakash clocked 2:27:12 seconds in the men’s 200 meter breast stroke to claim the gold, while compatriot Sandeep Sejwal (2:27:12) had to contend with silver. In women’s 50 metre freestyle, India’s Lekha Kamat won gold with a timing of 27.70 seconds. In men’s 50 metre butterfly, Virdhabal Khade added another gold to India’s tally with a timing of 25.97 seconds. Elsewhere, Rehan Poncha and Rohit Hawaldar tested each other’s endurance to win a gold and a silver respectively in men’s 400 meter freestyle while V Tejaswani managed a women’s 100 meter breast stroke silver for India on the opening day of aquatics event.

Easy in rowing: India made a clean sweep of the rowing events, bagging all the four gold medals on offer. In the men’s four coxless event, the team of B Manoj Augustine, Gurdarshan Singh, Sukhjeet Singh and S Krishnan pipped their Pakistani rivals to win the gold with a timing of 06:19.17. In men’s single scull, Bajrangal Takhar bagged the gold with a timming of 07:24.64. Takhar then paired with B Sunil Kumar to win the double scull event. The men’s coxless pair event saw India’s B Dharmesh Sangwan and S Joshi win the gold at 06:49.24.

India reach football semi-final: India rode on two first half strikes by Sushil Kumar Singh and Branco Vincent Cardozo to prevail 2-1 over Bangladesh in a hard-fought encounter and move into the semi-final.

Boxing medals assured: India were assured of two medals in boxing with Akhil Kumar and Sanjay Kishan making it to the semi-finals in the 54kg and 48kg category respectively. Akhil defeated MD Wanniarachchi 21-19 while Sanjay won over Surya Magar by RSC.
