The Minister of Environment and Forests, T.R. Baalu, committed to turning 925 forest villages into revenue villages. He also agreed to jointly petition the SC to modify the order that restrains them from regularising the pre-1980 encroachments.

‘‘The Centre is fully committed to regularise the pre-1980 encroachment of forest land. For revenue villages also it would be committed as per the guidelines approved by the Cabinet,’’ said an official statement from the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
