Daman’s Resident Deputy Collector Vijay Kumar Sharma was on Saturday nabbed by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch while accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh at his office. He had allegedly demanded the money for changing the status of a plot of agricultural land into a non-agricultural one. A search of his house yielded Rs 4 lakh in cash. One more house in Ranchi is also being searched.
The CBI also arrested one Capt Nirbhay Singh and Subedar major Gawde in Pune for accepting Rs 1 lakh as bribe from a complainant. Singh is an assistant garrison engineer responsible for civil works in the cantonment, while the complainant is a contractor.
