China on Tuesday described the Dalai Lama a ‘‘splittist’’ and urged foreign governments not to provide a platform for the exiled Tibetan religious leader to split the Himalayan region from the rest of the country.
‘‘Dalai is not an ordinary religious figure but rather a political exile long engaging in activities to split the motherland,’’ Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said. Asked to comment on the Dalai’s impending visit to Mexico, Kong said China was opposed to officials of any country meeting the Dalai Lama. —(PTI)
