As Ulhasnagar rejoiced a day after the state government announced an ordinance regularising unauthorised structures, the demolition drive continued in deference to a Bombay High Court order. It was, however, confined to just one building.

And even here—Laxmi Ganga Niwas—the demolition squad will leave as soon as the municipal commissioner receives a copy of the HC order—passed on Wednesday—granting a two-week stay in favour of the owner. Another building which got a breather is Rahul Palace. ‘‘Once I get the copy, I will stop demolishing Laxmi Ganga Niwas. Komal Park is next on the list,’’ said Municipal Commissioner D S Patil.

Meanwhile, several residents took to the streets, lit crackers, and danced to live bands.
