The first scent of a deal between warring factions in Kerala came today when the AICC announced that senior leader K. Karunakaran’s son, K. Muraleedharan, would be inducted into the state cabinet. It is clear that the AICC, by making this decision, has extended the olive branch to Karunakaran, who had threatened to form a new party.
While Karunakaran has been pressing for the portfolios of Finance or Home for his son, the party leadership has maintained that it is the prerogative of Chief Minister A.K. Antony to decide.
The announcement came after Muraleedharan’s resignation from the post of KPCC chief was accepted today. ‘‘Muraleedharan has tendered his resignation and it has been accepted by Sonia Gandhi,’’ spokesperson Anand Sharma said.
