Delhi Daredevils’ hopes of making it to the semifinals of the IPL received a setback on Thursday as their crucial match against Kolkata Night Riders was called off without a single ball being bowled due to unsuitable ground conditions at the Ferozeshah Kotla here following persistent rain.
Both sides got one point each from the abandoned tie and the Daredevils, with 13 points from as many matches, have jumped to the fourth place, which, however, makes their position for a last four berth difficult if not impossible.
All is though not lost for Daredevils and they can still make it to the semifinals depending on the results of the matches involving third-placed Chennai Super Kings (14 points from 12 matches) and fifth-placed Mumbai Indians (12 points from 11 matches).
If Delhi beat Mumbai on Saturday and Sachin-Tendulkar-led side loses one more match, besides Saturday’s then Delhi would be through.
Alternatively, if Chennai lose both their remaining two matches, Sehwag-led side will make it to the last four.
