HYDERABAD, December 31: Congress Working Committee member Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy has ruled out the question of Congress supporting any combination after the mid-term elections to the Lok Sabha even assuming that the party does not secure sufficient majority.
"We are sure that the Congress will secure enough majority to form the government. Even if we are slightly short of majority and require the support of others, it would be a Congress-led coalition," Reddy asserted.
The senior Congress leader said that the party would not repeat the experiment of the last 18 months when it had supported the United Front because it proved to be detrimental to the interests of the party and the country.
In an interview to The Indian Express, the former Chief Minister, who is considered pro-Sonia, was cautious on commenting about the developments in the Congress since Rajiv Gandhi’s widow announced her decision to campaign for the party during the upcoming elections. Reddy said many senior leaders not excluding himself had been requesting Sonia to campaign because the Congress required a "personality" to influence the voters. He did not see anything peculiar or surprising in someone other than the party president being the main campaigner for the party.
