China has retained its Vice-Foreign Minister as its special representative for the third round of Indo-China boundary talks.
‘‘Dai Bingguo, the Vice-Foreign Minister, will still be the special representative of China on the border talks between China and India,’’ a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said at Beijing today.
‘‘The date of the third meeting between India’s special representative and his Chinese counterpart on the boundary issues will be discussed through diplomatic channels.’’
External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh on Tuesday had said the newly appointed National Security Advisor, J.N. Dixit, would be India’s new special representative in the boundary talks and would soon meet Bingguo in New Delhi.
It was during former PM A.B. Vajpayee’s visit to China in June last year that the two sides agreed to resolve the boundary question through special representative-level talks.
The two governments then decided to designate special representatives on the boundary question to explore a framework solution from the political perspective of the overall relationship.
