Admitting inadequate security for the May 31 repoll in Chapra Lok Sabha constituency, Saran district administration has requested the state government to spare 10 more companies of security personnel for covering all booths. Saran District Magistrate-cum-Returning Officer B. Pradhan made the request to Chief Secretary K.A.H. Subramanian, sources said on Wednesday.
In his letter to the Chief Secretary, Pradhan said with the present security strength it would not be possible for the district administration to deploy security personnel at all the booths. Election to the Chapra seat was countermanded by the EC following reports from its two-member probe team that went into the complaints of large-scale rigging, booth-capturing and violence that occurred during the April 26 poll in the constituency. BJP, on the other hand, has demanded that the EC appoint special observers for each of Chapra’s six Assembly segments. —PTI
