The Chennai police has registered a complaint against BJP chief Venkaiah Naidu for alleged violation of the National Emblem and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act.

According to the complaint, Naidu had unfurled the Tricolour yesterday from the flag post where the BJP flag is normally hoisted at the state headquarters. Complainant Subhash Chandra Bose, who claims to be a BJP sympathiser, said this was a clear violation of the Act.

Reacting to the complaint against him, Venkaiah Naidu categorically denied that he had noticed ‘‘anything that caused disrespect to the national flag’’. He said that it was the practice every year to remove the party flag at the state headquarters and hoist the Tricolour on the same pole.
