The two teenagers, arrested for allegedly killing a four-year-old girl in Devlali near here, have now been charged with rape after forensic reports showed she had been raped before being strangled to death.
Inspector Sudhakar Datar said they have added Section 376 (Rape) in the charges against the teenagers, both 15-year-old. The boys, Ibrahim Mulla and Abbas Firoz Kanchwala, students of Class IX, were day scholars at the reputed Baranes School in Devlali.
When the victim Umeya alias Salma Gulam Hussein Dholakwala’s body was found near Devlali’s Parsi cemetery, police arrested the boys. Mulla, who was Dholakwala’s neighbour at the Greenwood Society, used to play pranks on her to scare her. Recently, Mulla was scolded after she reported the matter to her mother.
During interrogation, Mulla confessed to the crime and told police that he and his friend had taken the girl for a ride on a scooter and killed her to avenge the insult. Both the boys were arrested and remanded to magisterial custody till April 21.
