The Indian Women’s Press Corps turned 10 today, with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, wife Gursharan Kaur, Pakistan’s Ambassador Aziz Ahmed Khan and other luminaries raising a toast to the country’s first all-women club for journalists.
And the occasion, Singh said as he wished the club many more years of success, was an apt moment to reflect on the journey of Indian media in the past one decade.
Stating that a review of the media policy was necessary both in the context of changes consequent to the information revolution, and in light of the opening of the Indian economy, Singh promised a fair and balanced policy. ‘‘Our Government welcomes the possibility of discussing the policy on investment in Indian media with representative bodies such as the Women’s Press Club,’’ Singh said.
