Three militants who had taken shelter in a mosque at Danspora Beerwah village in Budgam district were killed in an operation by the Army with the help of sharpshooters today. One jawan was also injured.
‘‘First we tried to persuade the militants to surrender. They refused. Later, we used snipers to kill the militants hiding in the mosque. Two of them were killed outside the mosque when they tried to escape. The third was shot by a sniper through the window,’’ an Army spokesman said.
Three AK rifles and six magazines were recovered from the encounter site.
A foreign militant was also killed in another operation at Waternar forest at Kokernag today.
