Next month, Julien’s and Turner Classic Movies will hold an auction featuring the iconic pink dress worn by the late Hollywood actor Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The silk satin organza costume, created by Hubert de Givenchy, is adorned with sequins, beads, and gold tassel appliqués.

Famously, Audrey Hepburn wore the bubblegum pink midi dress while playing Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Givenchy first created the dress in black for his autumn/winter 1960 collection.

After seeing Lee Radziwill in a portrait sporting a similar outfit, Audrey asked Givenchy to make the pink version and change the neckline. According to the fashion publication Women’s Wear Daily, the dress has a powerful meaning in a sequence from the movie and is expected to sell for between $200,000 and $300,000.

As part of the three-day auction event, connoisseurs can now buy items from the designer wardrobe of Audrey, the late Princess Diana, and actor Grace Kelly, among others.

The auction, dubbed Legends: Hollywood & Royalty, also includes items from films like Star Wars and Alien, as well as a selection of things Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart formerly possessed.

It is also expected to feature several costumes from the silver screen that were worn by Hepburn, Kelly, and Judy Garland. A Kelly “Mogambo” party dress in lavender gingham and Garland’s “The Pirate” bridal gown with puffy sleeves are both on the market.

The sale includes three of Princess Diana’s dresses. The first was a red silk Bruce Oldfield dress that the late queen wore twice, the first time to the 1989 London premiere of When Harry Met Sally. She wore it to another film premiere two years later in London: the comedy Hot Shots.

Julien’s shared an Instagram post about the auction and captioned it, “Bid Now! Julien’s Auctions and @tcm are bringing the memorable Audrey Hepburn worn pink Givenchy dress from Breakfast At Tiffany’s to the auction block.”

On Julien’s website, potential bidders can register online. On September 6, 7, and 8, the auctions are held in Beverly Hills at 257 N. Canon Drive. This area will host a number of lots for public viewing until September.

A budget of about half a million pounds is said to be necessary for history-loving fashionistas who want to buy these symbolic artifacts.
