A rape accused was seen making arrangements for a puja for BJP general secretary Varun Gandhi during a visit to Singur.

Debu Mallick,accused of raping and killing Trinamool activist Tapasi Mallick during the Singur movement,made arrangements for a puja for Varun at a Hanuman temple at Bajemelia village in Singur before the BJP leader addressed the villagers.

Mallick,who is out on bail since 2009,said he had not joined the BJP but made the arrangements,as he had “come to see the member of a Gandhi family”.

“My house is nearby,” he said as he cut fruits for puja offering at the temple.

Varun Gandhi,the in-charge of party affairs in West Bengal,was greeted by curious onlookers- and not the landlosers of Singur- during his first visit to the Ground Zero of anti-land acquisition on Tuesday.
