ARUNABH KUMAR, CEO of The Viral Fever (TVF), accused of sexual harassment at workplace was granted bail by a sessions court in Dindoshi on Monday. Kumar had earlier filed for and received interim bail till April 17 in the sexual harassment case lodged against him at MIDC police station in Andheri.
“We argued against the bail and presented all documents. However, Arunabh Kumar’s lawyer argued that there was no need for police or judicial custody as the defendant has been cooperating with the investigation and complying all orders,” an officer at MIDC police station said.
Kumar had also got bail in a similar case registered against him at Versova police station earlier this month. So far two FIRs against the TVF CEO for workplace sexual harassment and molestation have been registered in Mumbai.
According to the FIR lodged at MIDC police station in Andheri, Kumar had allegedly harassed the complainant, a 26-year-old woman, during a May 2016 shoot at TVF office in Andheri East.
“The defendant’s lawyer argued that the FIR was filed 10 months after the alleged incident took place and the complainant had continued working with the accused for a month after that. The accused has already recorded his statement at the MIDC police station,” said D N Mudigamti, the public prosecutor in the case.
According to an officer, the police will investigate the matter further and prepare the chargesheet. “The bail is conditional. The accused has to be present at the police station before the investigating officer as and when required. And after the chargesheet is filed, he will have to file a fresh bail application,” the officer added.
Statements of other TVF employees and people present during the May 2016 shoot when the alleged incident of molestation is said to have happened, have been recorded by MIDC police.
Kumar has been booked under Sections 354 (A) (punishment for sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to outrage the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.
