Tripura man who raped wife’s minor student gets 20-year rigorous imprisonment

According to the prosecutor, the man sexually assaulted the schoolgirl when she visited his wife for private tuition.

A local court in Tripura on Thursday convicted a 44-year-old man for raping a minor schoolgirl several times and sentenced him to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment, Special Public Prosecutor Sunirmal Deb said.

The girl’s private teacher’s husband repeatedly raped her when she visited the teacher for private tuition in Unakoti district in 2023, Special Public Prosecutor Sunirmal Deb and counsel Sandip Debroy said, addng that the sexual assaults happened in the absence of the teacher or when she was in her prayer room.

They added that the sexual assaults came to light after the minor girl refused to go to the private teacher’s home after July 5, 2023. After learning about the sexual assaults, the schoolgirl’s parents filed a police complaint against the teacher’s husband on July 8 that year.

“The investigating officer filed the chargesheet by July 31, 2023, following a speedy investigation. Twelve witnesses got their statements recorded. After the trial, a special judge convicted the man and sentenced him to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 11,000, failing which he will have to spend additional four months in jail,” Special Public Prosecutor Sunirmal Deb told reporters.
