Supreme Court Collegium names 9 for HCs, one for third time
On Tuesday, the Collegium also recommended Judicial Officers Aribam Guneshwar Sharma and Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui for appointment as judges of the Manipur High Court.

THE SUPREME Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud Tuesday reiterated for the third time its decision to appoint advocate Nagendra Ramachandra Naik as a judge of the Karnataka High Court. It also recommended eight other names for appointment as judges of five High Courts.
“The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 10 January 2023 has, on reconsideration, resolved to reiterate its earlier recommendation for elevation of Shri Nagendra Ramachandra Naik, Advocate, as Judge in the Karnataka High Court,” the statement said.

The Indian Express had earlier reported that along with Naik’s recommendation, the Government had on November 28 last year returned 19 names recommended by the Collegium. Conventionally, the Government is bound to accept the Collegium’s recommendation if the decision has been reiterated.
Naik was first recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on October 3, 2019. The Collegium reiterated its decision on two occasions: March 2, 2021 and September 1, 2021.
On Tuesday, the Collegium also recommended Judicial Officers Aribam Guneshwar Sharma and Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui for appointment as judges of the Manipur High Court.
For the Andhra Pradesh High Court, the Collegium recommended judicial officers P Venkata Jyothirmai and V Gopalakrishna Rao for appointment as judges. For the Gauhati High Court, it recommended Judicial Officer Mridul Kumar Kalita.
For the Bombay High Court, the Collegium recommended the appointment of advocate Neela Kedar Gokhle as judge. Judicial Officers Ramachandra Dattatray Huddar and Venkatesh Naik Thavaryanaik were recommended for appointment as judges of the Karnataka High Court.
