Odisha brothers rape minor for a year, threaten to kill her after she gets pregnant: Police

The father alleged that the two accused and the local leader pressured them to come to a compromise by taking money and threatened to kill them if they refused, police sources said.

The Odisha Police on Friday arrested two brothers for allegedly raping a minor for around a year. They also allegedly threatened to kill the minor, who is now seven months pregnant.

The police action came following a complaint by the victim’s father. According to police sources, after the father came to know about his daughter’s pregnancy, both of them went to a local leader to discuss the matter.

The father alleged that the two accused and the local leader pressured them to come to a compromise by taking money and threatened to kill them if they refused, police sources said.

Besides the two brothers, a case has also been registered against the local leader under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police said the local leader is now absconding and that a team has been formed to arrest him. The police said they have also recorded the statement of the victim.
