NDRF recovers body of fourth missing fisherman from Dumboor lake in Tripura

The fishermen went missing on the night of March 23 after their maancha (makeshift platform) collapsed amid raging winds.

The National Disaster Response Force on Monday recovered the body of the fourth fisherman who went missing during a northwester from the Dumboor lake in Tripura’s Dhalai district.

The fishermen went missing on the night of March 23 after their maancha (makeshift platform) collapsed amid raging winds. The bodies of three fishermen who went missing were recovered from the lake on Sunday. The fishermen were identified as 46-year old Haridas Das, 50-year-old Jyotish Mallik and 45-year-old Pradip Das. The body of the fourth fisherman, Sanjit Nandi, was recovered on Monday morning.

The State Emergency Operations Centre said on Sunday that 4,583 houses were damaged across the state as heavy showers, thunderstorms and squalls hit the state. Sepahijala, South Tripura and Khowai districts were among the worst-hit.

The local administration gave financial aid of Rs 1.1 lakh on an emergency basis while further reports were being compiled.
