In the run-up to its 91st anniversary on October 8, the Indian Air Force (IAF) Saturday carried out an aerial display over Bhojtal Lake in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal.

During the fly-past programme, IAF helicopters and fighter jets showcased a series of aerobatic performances over the lake.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who presided over the event, shared visuals on X with the IAF’s motto “Nabha Sparsham Deeptam” (Touch the sky with Glory).

Apart from the CM, Governor Mangubhai Patel and senior officers of the Indian Air Force were also present to witness the program.

Earlier this week Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari met veteran air warriors in New Delhi as part of Air Force Day celebrations.

October 8 is celebrated as the Air Force Day because on this day, the Air Force in India was officially raised in 1932 as the supporting force of the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom.  The first operational squadron came into being in April 1933. After participation in World War II, the Air Force in India came to be called the Royal Indian Air Force in the mid 1940s.

In 1950, after the republic came into being it became the Indian Air Force. From six officers and 19 Hawai Sepoys back in 1933, the Air Force now is the fourth largest in the world.

The Foundation Day is usually marked by the main event comprising a parade and flypast at Hindon Air Force Base along with events at IAF establishments across the country.
